We Thank Thee Oh God for a Prophet

One of my all-time favorite things to do is go to movies.yahoo.com and watch new previews. It's fantastic.

So this morning I went to go look at the new trailers, and there was one called 8: The Mormon Proposition. (At least I think that's what it was called.) I wasn't sure if I should watch it, because I knew it would probably just make me angry, but I watched it anyway.

It was awful. It was all about how Mormons hate homosexuals and blah blah blah. They totally and completely misconstrued Latter-Day Saints to make us seem positively evil.

But the absolute worst part was when they attacked President Thomas S. Monson. They took quotes from talks completely out of context and make him seem like a villain. It broke my heart. I loved President Monson so much. I have no doubt he is a Prophet of God and that he receives divine revelation for our church. He is an absolutely amazing man, and I am truly grateful for what he does for our church.

Watching this made me feel angry, hurt, and a little bit discouraged. Here's just one more thing to make people judge the church. I felt like I couldn't do anything about it, and that Satan is going to just keep getting into the hearts of more and more people. So, I went to the scriptures. I just started reading in Mosiah, where King Noah is ruling over the people. Because of this king, his people become more and more wicked. But then Abinadi comes. He's just one man, but he still comes to preach to all of these people. It seems a little hopeless, right? But it's not, because he has the Lord on his side. And when you are on the Lord's side, you are always going to be on the winning team. Reading this helped me feel loads better, and it helped me remember to keep having faith, and keep doing what I need to do to stay on the Lord's side. That's how we can overcome evil. We need to stay strong, and spread His gospel to as many people as we can. We need to keep listening to the Prophet, and support him in his divine calling.

Heavenly Father is in control of everything, and it will work out.
